Please join hosts and co-chairs Kathy and Jamie Clark, together with the WHOI-Dallas Chapter, for an inside look at the newly launched WHOI Fisheries Catalyst.
As part of the Grossman Catalyst Program, a competitive seed funding award program, WHOI launched a new collaborative research team to help fishers adapt to our changing oceans.
Their aim: to reimagine fisheries
management in a more dynamic ocean.
Senior Scientist Dr. Glen Gawarkiewicz will discuss the team’s innovative work to advance our understanding of fish ecology through marine predator tagging, satellite observations, ocean modeling, and other emerging technologies. Working with regulators and fishers, the team hopes to make management tools—including permits and fishing quotas—more responsive to real-time ocean conditions.
Jamie and Kathy Clark graciously sponsor this event.
Glen Garwarkiewicz is a coastal oceanographer and member of the WHOI Fisheries Catalyst team. His research focuses on interactions between continental shelves and the deep ocean. He is interested in climate change impacts in the coastal ocean, ocean observatories, scientific uses of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, and impacts of climate change on fisheries.
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is the world’s leading independent nonprofit dedicated to ocean research, exploration, and education, advancing ocean knowledge and accelerating the search for solutions to benefit humanity and our ocean planet.
